Project: Flamingo Hotel & Casino
Location: Las Vegas
Products: Reclaimed Teak Flooring
TerraMai’s reclaimed Teak flooring helps achieve a swanky, hipster look for the new refurbished suites at the legendary Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas-based design firm Cagley & Tanner specializes in interiors that feel “exciting and different as well as comforting and familiar.” The reclaimed teak flooring used for these suites serves as a perfect transition element between high-style, high-roller flair and relaxed, cool-cat lounge.
TerraMai’s reclaimed teak flooring has the rich color, tight grain, and legendary durability only found in centuries-old teak. Plantation-grown teak from South America cannot compare to old-growth Asian teak, in either looks or durability.
The Flamingo hotel is an icon of American culture. Founded in 1946 by famed mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel, and bankrolled by Frank Costello and other mythic mafia figures, The Pink Flamingo Hotel & Casino marks the birth of “Vegas” as we know it.
The hotel has since gone through many incarnations and owners (when Sigel was caught skimming profits from the casino in 1947, it cost him his life). The last remaining part of the original structure was demolished in 1993 and according to many, the event served as the symbolic death of the old-school, swingin’ Vegas of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Rat Pack and all the wise guys and gals who made the town their 24-hour playground.
Since then, Las Vegas has emerged from the shadowy, mob-controlled underworld into the bright daylight of mainstream corporate America. The Flamingo is now owned by Harrah’s Entertainment and offers a wide range of entertainment venues.
