TerraMai’s reclaimed teak on the ceiling appears to flow right through the glass walls from the building’s exterior to its interior in the impressive lobby of UC Berkeley’s Energy BioSciences Building. Reclaimed teak can be found throughout the 113,200 square foot, five-story facility on the ceiling and as stair treads.

SmithGroupJJR, a national leader in sustainable design, was aptly chosen to design the LEED certified Gold building that now houses The Energy BioSciences Institute. The Institute was created to find technological solutions to the problems associated with climate change, global warming and the rising price and diminishing supplies of fossil fuels.
