Why TerraMai Acoustic Ceiling Tiles?
TerraMai Acoustic Ceiling Tiles are solid wood slat tiles that drop into a standard 2′ × 4′ suspended ceiling grid. Each tile is a single preassembled component — solid wood slats mounted on a rigid PET acoustic backer — requiring no clips, glue, or specialty hardware to install. They’re designed for commercial interiors, including tenant improvements, workplace refreshes, and renovations.
Our tiles are solid wood, so the species you specify is the species in the tile — its true grain, density, and character. They are preassembled and install like any lay-in tile, in the standard 2′ × 4′ grid.
Yes — every tile is made with solid wood slats, not veneer or wood-look material. The species named are the species in the tile: White Oak, Black Walnut, Angelique, Orchard Walnut, or Fir finished in Faux Sugi Ban®, each finished in Zero-VOC clear oil.
They drop into a heavy-duty 15/16″ T-bar suspended ceiling grid — the same lay-in method as a standard mineral tile. Lift out the existing tile, set in the TerraMai tile. No clips, no glue, no specialty installers. Tiles arrive fully finished and ready to set.
Three patterns — Batten, Cascade, and Linear — each in two orientations, Long (slats running the tile’s length) and Wide (slats running the tile’s width). Five solid wood species: White Oak, Black Walnut, Angelique, Orchard Walnut, and Fir finished in Faux Sugi Ban®. White Oak is available with a Black or Cloud acoustic backer; custom felt options are available.
Each tile is built on a rigid acoustic felt backer designed for sound absorption. Third-party acoustic testing is currently underway; published performance data will be available here when testing is complete.
Angelique is an inherently Class A Fire Resistant species. Additionally, we apply Class A Fire Retardant to all other species.
Yes. The acoustic backer is made with 50% post-consumer recycled content. Each species carries a TerraMai Certified Sustainable sourcing designation: Angelique is Water Reclaimed from tropical reservoirs, Orchard Walnut is Orchard Reclaimed from West Coast orchards, Fir is Pre-Consumer Reclaimed from Pacific Northwest industrial fall-down, and White Oak and Black Walnut are Responsibly Sourced from the United States. All tiles are finished in Zero-VOC clear oil and contribute to LEED v4 EQ Credit: Low-Emitting Materials.
Yes. TerraMai Acoustic Ceiling Tiles can be used in Commercial or Residential projects. View our installation guides for grid specifications and weight requirements.
Yes. Tiles can be wall-mounted with Z-clips or face-screwed through the acoustic backer into structural members, extending the same pattern and species from ceiling to wall.
