Water Reclaimed Ipe Decking

Ipe is a beautiful, highly durable wood that is prized for its color, character, and high resistance to decay and insect attacks.  Ipe was used for Coney Island boardwalks and lasted an unbelievable 25 years in that exceptionally heavy use and harsh environment.  Far too much Ipe available on the market is harvested illegally or in a manner that leads to deforestation.  TerraMai Water Reclaimed woods have been standing in reservoirs in the tropics, perfectly preserved for decades. We expertly remove, dry, and mill these lost and forgotten woods, delivering them to you as environmentally positive tropical hardwoods.

Colors: Beautiful deep brown that, left unfinished, ages gracefully into a soft, silver patina

Net Dimensions: 7/8" thick x 5" wide x 6' to 12' random lengths

Millwork: Surfaced four sides (S4S). Eased four edges (E4E) at 1/8" radius. Available in both Square Edge profile, and Hidden Clip profile that has a 5/32" wide x 1/2" deep groove cut into the edge to accept various hidden clip fasteners.

Character: Mostly clear with occasional small tight knots.  Proper acclimation and decking design is critical to a successful project. As with most exterior woods, over time and with exposure to the elements, Ipe may develop shallow surface checking. This does not affect structural performance of the material.

Hardware: For Square Edge profile, TerraMai recommends face screwing deck boards directly to joists using 2-1/4" #7 Stainless Steel deck screws, pre-drilling is required. Two screws per board per joist = 3.9 screws/SF w 16" OC Joist Spacing. TerraMai can provide optional hardwood plugs cut from the same species to hide screw heads.

Finish: Available with Exterior Oil on all faces, edges, and ends.

Certification: Water Reclaimed material - TerraMai Certified as sustainably harvested
