The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) celebrated the opening of its new Biomedical Sciences and Engineering (BSE) education facility. It was designed to be one of the region’s most sustainably-sourced and built laboratory buildings and the BSE is on track to achieve LEED Platinum certification. Because sustainability and character was an import factor in the construction of the building, the project sought to use reclaimed wood for its signature "drum" wall and flooring. TerraMai worked with the designers and contractors to bring this wall to fruition and delivered a mix of custom red and white oak panels of fixed length. The character of the reclaimed wood, thickness of the paneling, and lapped construction all create a beautiful and amazing architectural element.
