Lafayette Library - Reclaimed Teak Siding, Paneling & Column Wraps
Project: Lafayette Library & Learning Center
Location: Lafayette, CA
Designer: Killefer Flammang Architects - Santa Monica
Product: Reclaimed Teak Siding, Paneling and Column Wraps
Reclaimed teak siding and columns help make this new library facility by Killefer Flammang Architects a showpiece in the heart of downtown Lafayette, CA.
The recently opened facility has already attracted much more enthusiasm and larger-than-expected crowds. This success demonstrates that when communities invest in their public spaces, the rewards can far outweigh the initial costs.
The project's designers chose reclaimed teak because they “wanted a soft, warm material in contrast with the granite and metal panels,” said Barbara Flammang of Killefer Flammang Architects.
The building is a modern interpretation of the classic Bay Area craftsman style, “so wood had to play a big part,” Flammang said.
Teak was identified as the wood of choice virtually from the outset of the design process, according to Flammang.“Having a wood as noble as teak is something the clients really responded to immediately,” she said.
TerraMai worked with the architects and the client throughout the design process to create a custom-milled product that matched their design intent, met their performance criteria, and stayed within their budget.
The ability to collaborate on projects of this level, and deliver products of the highest quality and value, makes TerraMai unique in the industry.
