TerraMai’s reclaimed teak plays a vital role in the successful blend of traditional beach house with modern design sensibility that was the vision of Lacina-Heitler Architects and their clients for this Bridgehampton, NY residence. Used in various applications throughout the home, reclaimed teak helps achieve the successful “architectural duality” that is the hallmark of this 7,900 square foot project.
Lacina-Heitler took inspiration from existing structures on the site in creating a contemporary design scheme to showcase the clients’ collection of exotic art and furnishings gathered from world travels. Reclaimed teak infuses the home’s open, airy interiors with an element of warmth and character that compliments the clean, minimalist aesthetic.
Reclaimed teak is used for flooring throughout much of the house and for the headboard in the master bedroom. In the “pavilion” bathroom, the doors and a free-standing combination of tub enclosure and sink wall are also reclaimed teak. Reclaimed, untreated railway ties make up a second sink installation that is another example of how the rugged and the refined together work wonders.
A project of this caliber and complexity demands a high level of building expertise, which was provided by JGK Construction, Inc. JGK’s stellar craftsmanship ensured that the exacting vision of both the designers and the clients was realized.
