In 2002 I was kicking around Montana and saw a number of gorgeous old barns in various states of disrepair. Despite being on a self-imposed one year sabbatical/respite from my work in Silicon Valley, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. Was there a business lying there in ruins for a curious entrepreneur to develop?
At the time, it seemed like anyone with a chain saw, a pick up truck (and a dog, of course) could be in the reclaimed wood business. Being a conservator of resources and holding a deep respect for our environment, I saw an opportunity. Could I bring some of what I had learned in Silicon Valley to this deeply fragmented and nascent industry?
I set off to build THE leading brand and company in the reclaimed wood industry. Fortunately, the quest never ends!
