espirit doors
Own a piece of classic 1970’s industrial
design with these solid-core, painted wood doors – complete
with vintage 70’s-era hardware – reclaimed from the
historic 900 Minnesota Esprit Building in San Francisco. The 900
Minnesota building was originally built as a wine storage facility
in 1903. It survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake but was damaged
by a fire in the early 1970s. Doug Tompkins, environmental activist
and co-founder of the Esprit clothing company, refurbished the building
and converted it into the Esprit headquarters in the mid 1970s.
The building had a definite West Coast 70’s vibe, combining
natural materials with industrial design elements and bright colors.
Sandblasted Doug fir posts, beams and exposed trusses mixed with
these brightly painted doors and other elements – such as
industrial hardware, industrial lighting and exposed brick and glass.
Together these materials combined to create a vibrant space that
was at once both rustic-organic and industrial-modern. These vintage
doors, with their unique and special pedigree, are a bargain at
$10 per piece for a lot of 10 or $50 per single piece.
