conservatory of flowers
In 1999 the San Francisco
Conservatory of Flowers began a complete renovation of the
landmark structure. Built in 1877 out of glass and old-growth
redwood, the greenhouse was in dire need of repair. The trust
undertaking the repairs, along with the City of San Francisco,
chose to use TerraMai’s redwood, reclaimed from a lumber
mill in Scotia, California, to replace aging pieces of the
building. The project was successfully completed in 2003 and
the conservatory is once again open to the public.
