Chartwell School stands in stark contrast to the usual drab, dull institutional look and feel characteristic of so many schools, thanks to design features such as TerraMai’s reclaimed Wine Tank Redwood siding and Douglas fir paneling.

The character-rich, natural, reclaimed wood materials chosen for the Chartwell School project by EHDD Architecture of San Francisco help create a learning environment that is visually stimulating and engaging for the school’s students. TerraMai’s reclaimed wood products also add an element of history that is well-suited to the school’s setting in Seaside, CA, near Monterey.

The Douglas fir used to create the paneling was reclaimed from the historic 900 Minnesota building in San Francisco, built in 1903. The redwood siding comes from reclaimed wine tanks from the Sebastiani Vineyards in Sonoma, CA.

Chartwell School was originally founded in 1983 with the mission of serving students with a “wide range of language-related visual and auditory learning challenges.”
