TerraMai provided wood decking for solar power structures erected at the event. The Barge Deck Douglas Fir loaned by TerraMai for Burning Man was reclaimed from the deck of a huge barge used to shuttle construction materials and other goods in the Hawaiian Islands. The material was used as floor decking and ballast for portable solar structures used at Burning Man and manufactured by Envision Solar. These structures were used to generate power and to provide shade and shelter.

One of the solar structures also housed a wind-tunnel prototype of the new Tesla roadster. The state-of-the-art sports car goes from 0 to 60 mph in about 4 seconds, has a top speed of about 135 mph, and is 100% electrically powered. The vehicle is produced by Silicon Valley-based Tesla Motors.

Envision Solar, based in San Diego, was founded in 2006 by architect Bob Noble. The company specializes in solar carports and offers design, engineering, construction, installation, financing, site maintenance, feasibility studies and other services. Prior to establishing Envision Solar, Noble was CEO of Tucker Sadler Architects, an eco-friendly firm based in San Diego.

   
 The Barge Wood Douglas Fir used at Burning Man returned from the event like many of the human attendees – coated in playa dust from the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. This powder coating of playa dust gives the wood a unique and compelling patina. From the Hawaiian Seas to the Black Rock playa of Burning Man – this wood has a one-of-a-kind look to go with its one-of-a-kind history.
